Walking the Dog

We normally start the day by going for a 1 hour walk with Stig, he loves to chase all the Rabbits in the campo and Orange groves. It’s a great way to start the day and beats sitting on the M3 listening to traffic reports. You’re welcome to join us if you are staying here.

We took a few pictures that you can see here

Scam

Some guests who have just returned from a holiday at Finca Arboleda have let me know about a scam. They received a letter, not an email, saying that they had won a Spanish lottery and asking for their bank details. They hadn’t bought a ticket so knew it wasn’t genuine.

Their address wasn’t leaked from us as we don’t have that information. It could have come from the car rental company. So just be aware and if anyone else has the same letter please let me know.

Weather report at 10.35 am….26 degrees and SUNNY!!

Irish Rovers

Pirkko and I met in an Irish pub (The Loft) in Stockholm and have Irish friends with whom we’ve celebrated many memorable Paddy nights, well maybe memorable isn’t the right word! so we are always pleased to have guests from the home of Guinness. Ryanair are restarting their popular Dublin to Almeria route from April 1st so we hope to see a few visitors from Ireland this summer.

Liam Brady would be especially welcome if he’s reading this!

What’s the weather like?

That’s the question we get asked the most. When I lived in Sweden I always thought we only had Summer and Winter well this has been the year of the missing winter in Spain. We’ve had dull weeks and a spot of rain but now it’s sunshine and night temperatures around 14 degs and 20 by day.

Blossom everywhere, Apricots, Almonds, Plums and the fantastic Oranges. The pool is 20 degs and guests are swimming, still about 5 degs too low for me, we even had some nutters using it on New Years Eve, you know who you are!

We still have a couple of free weeks in March and April and all of May in the apartment which is one of the best months to visit this area, warm, quiet and cheap.

See you all soon

Mick

Olives picked and pressed

olive-press-resize.jpgWe had great weather for picking the Olives at the weekend, sunny and 20 degs. Pat and Pete, Brian and Jackie, Mike and Anna gave us loads of help as did Alex and Becks who are staying here and came all the way from New Zealand (not just to pick the Olives!). We picked 561Kg of Olives and now have 127 litres of Extra Virgin Olive Oil ready for you to try and buy when you visit Finca Arboleda.

Olive Picking

We will be picking our olives on Saturday 17th through to Monday and will take them to the mill on Tuesday. The weather here is fantastic, 23 degs yesterday, so it should be a good few days.

Flights to Murcia

Although Almeria airport is the closest to Finca Arboleda, Murcia airport is a good alternative.

Murcia airport is situated at San Javier and a new motorway makes the journey very easy.

There are 16 direct routes from the UK and Dublin which means you are more likely to find a great price from an airport near you. Follow the link on the flights page to Murcia airport for route infomation, or send us a mail with any questions you may have.

Olive Oil

We were listening to Chris Evans on the radio last week talking about the virtues of using Olive Oil. They had a bottle in the studio which had come from Italy and cost 21 GBP.

21 QUID!!!!  apparently it was special because it came from a small estate where the producer knew the names of the pickers.

I can tell you what our pickers had for lunch and our excellent Extra Virgin Oil only costs 4GBP a bottle. Our Spanish neighbours have said it’s the best they’ve ever tasted.
