More splashes than Ashes

Took Stig out, cleaned the pool, had some breakfast, painted my new shelf, squirted silicone around the shower screen, had a swim, settled down to watch the cricket… RAINING!
As it hasn’t rained here for months you forget that this was a possibility.
I thought this was going to be another scorching English summer, government propaganda again!
Don’t believe them next year, think Finca Arboleda if you want sunshine.

The big squeeze

We generally find something indoors to keep us busy during July and August.

Last year it was the magnificent Chinese Olympics, this year the Ashes, the problem with the Ashes is that you have to fill the days between tests. Problem? no problem this year, we have bought some squeezeboxes to stream mp3s and internet radio around the home, they’re great but it does mean I have to rip the cd collection, 45Gb done and still more to do, can’t wait for the next test!

Of course while I’m doing this we have guests enjoying the sun and the pool, Finca Arboleda really is a great place for a holiday why not visit us here

After the fire.

Well people are starting to get back to normal, water is a bit short in some areas but should be fixed by Sunday.
Mojacar will be pretty busy for the next 6 weeks or so but after that we will have the place to ourselves again.

Why not come and explore the area,  Finca Arboleda is a great place to stay only 10mins from the beach but idyllicly set in the countryside, visit us here.

Am I missing something?

Steven Gerrard captain of Liverpool was found not guilty in a Liverpool court but all his mates were guilty.
So he’ll play for England in the world cup and be a shining example to kids all over the country.

Fire update

The fire started in the Cabreras on the hottest day of the year and fanned by 80kmh winds spread towards Mojacar. 1500 people were evacuated and many spent the night on the beach, actually more pleasant than being indoors probably. It seems to be getting back to normal but as it is the second fire this month speculation is starting about the cause and the lack of firebreaks.
There is damage to property but I won’t try and guess about how much, our area is unaffected.

David Jackson is updating here with reports and pictures.
The last 10 days have seen a large operation to clear scrub land in this area and it appears that crops are going to be grown for the 1st time since we have been here. Locals say that when the economy gets tough the Spanish head back to the land.

Another fire in Cabreras

We can see thick smoke and a friend in Los Gallardos says there are more flames visible than last time, the strong hot winds won’t help.
Lenox reports it here

Phew!

My it’s hot today, 40.4 in the shade, the hottest it’s been in the 6 summers we’ve lived here.
Stay indoors, shutters down and plenty of water, unless you’re on holiday of course when it’s down the beach and top up the tan!

Fire in Cabrera mountains

We had a small storm yesterday AM which deposited about 10 drops of rain.

Unfortunately what we didn’t know was that it started a fire in the mountains around mid-day. We noticed it when some friends left at about 3PM and the sky from here to Mojacar was thick with smoke. When it got dark we could clearly see flames.

Local papers are reporting 300 people evacuated and 20 homes damaged, thankfully no human casualties although it probably claimed a lot of wildlife in a protected area.

David Jackson has written about it here
